Oral Hygiene
Good oral health habits need to be formed from the earliest age. Tooth decay is largely preventable, but it is still a serious problem among young children. Nearly a quarter of 5 year olds in England have tooth decay, with 3 or 4 teeth affected on average. (Gov. UK)
At the school, promoting good oral hygiene is embedded in the curriculum. We regularly talk to the children about the importance of looking after our teeth using books, rhymes, and role-play. We share this with parents. We also aim to invite in visitors to the school including Nurses, and Dentists.
The school follows the ethos of the Smile 4 life programme
This is an oral health improvement programme to help children and adults improve oral health. Smile 4 Life covers four key themes.
1. Encouraging healthy eating and drinking
2. Encourage regular tooth brushing.
3. Encouraging the promotion of healthy lifestyles
4. Visiting the dentist regularly
